Join our Story Telling And Reading (STAR) volunteer team and spark a lifelong interest in reading!

Do you remember the magic of story time? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of children?

If you answered yes, become a STAR (Story Telling and Reading) volunteer with Los Angeles Public Library!

This opportunity is for adults 18 years or older who would like to share the fun of reading with a child. When children read books one-on-one with a STAR volunteer, they improve their reading skills, enrich their imagination and develop a life-long love of reading.

A STAR Volunteer Reader is a volunteer who reads books and tells stories with children at their local library. They serve as positive role models for children. They are at least 18 years old and commit 2 hours per week for at least 6 months. They are trained in a workshop on reading techniques that make books and stories come alive. A background check and fingerprinting are required and provided by the Library for all potential volunteer readers.
