We are looking for volunteers of any age to prepare computers to be used by individuals who have vision loss. We will provide training, and no experience is necessary.

If you are interested in volunteering, please visit the volunteer section of our website at computersfortheblind.org/donate.php and fill out our sign up form. Next, you will need to sign up for a specific shift at:

Please be aware that due to occupant limits currently imposed, we may not have shifts available.

As a volunteer, you will set up the computer system with provided parts and check that all the hardware is functional. You will then set up the accessibility software that will be used by the our clients, and finally get the computer packed to be ready to ship out.

Our current shifts are:
Monday through Thursday: 12pm to 6pm
Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm

Mission Statement

The mission of Computers for the Blind (CFTB) is to open the world of information technology to persons who are blind or visually impaired by providing computer equipment, software and training.

Description

Computers for the Blind provides refurbished computers to persons who are blind or visually impaired who would otherwise not be able to obtain one. These computers are donated by individuals and businesses in the DFW area. Volunteers wipe the hard drives clean, and refurbish the computers and install the software that make them accessible to persons who are blind or low vision.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 14
  • Orientation or Training
  • It can take 2-4 hours to completely refurbish and prepare and pack a computer. While we prefer shifts of at least 4 hours, we understand some volunteers may not have that much time or can complete the refurbishing process in less time.
  • Have a good time and invite a friend!
