Political Chair in Finger Lakes Group

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter

  • 2 people are interested

MISSION & GOALS

The Political Chair works with Group leaders to identify candidates running for local, state, and federal offices who are concerned about the environment and likely to take pro-environment positions if elected. Members recommend these candidates for Sierra Club endorsement and support their campaigns. The Political Chair meets with elected officials on an ongoing basis to explain and advocate for Sierra Club positions.

The Finger Lakes Group includes over 1,000 Sierra Club members covering all or part of 11 counties in New York State: Allegany, Cayuga, Chemung, Cortland, Livingston, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, and Yates.

DESCRIPTION

Political Chair helps design candidate questionnaires, review questionnaire responses, and select candidates for interviews. They participate in candidate interviews, and vote on endorsement recommendations. Political committee members interact with the candidates, and then build relationships with elected officials to ensure that the Sierra Club's voice is heard on issues of environmental concern. The time commitment required is flexible depending on where we are in the election cycle.

Ability to participate in Group ExCom in-person and conference call monthly meetings a plus.
