When you volunteer with Songea’s Kid, you will affect the lives of orphans and poor Lutukira villagers in remote southern Tanzania, East Africa by providing basic needs, education, health care--and enabling entrepreneurship and sustainability. Join our team of architects, engineers and other Seattle-area professionals who donate time and skills to our innovative projects. Learn more at www.songeaskids.org
You will serve as part-time bookkeeper for the Hope Village account. The current lead part-time accountant will handle all other Songea's Kids accounts. You will closely scrutinize Excel budgets and retirements sent by the accountant at our Tanzanian NGO partner Hope Village Organization. The financial records are maintained on a secure Songea’s Kids laptop used by the bookkeeper in his/her home on a self-determined schedule. Experience with Excel required; knowledge of Quickbooks would be helpful. Bookkeepeer must live in the greater SEATTLE area and be available to participate in monthly Sammamish Board of Directors meetings on an as-needed basis.

Description
Songea's Kids is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization founded in 2007 that is dedicated to building hope and transforming the lives of orphans, vulnerable children and their communities in southern Tanzania by providing nurturing homes, clean water, food, clothing, health care and education. We have two programs designed to address both immediate and long-term needs. Our Child Sponsorship Program pairs USA sponsors with a child in urgent need of care, utilizing a foster care approach to meet basic needs and education. We make it possible for each child to reach his or her potential through educational programs that will provide them with the knowledge, skills and abilities to support themselves when they become adults.
Our second program addresses the longer-term needs of orphans and vulnerable children. We work with our Tanzanian NGO partner Hope Village Organization to design and construct Hope Village, a residential orphan haven that will serve 190 of the most vulnerable children, including abandoned babies and street children. Hope Village is rapidly becoming a thriving community center, with a health care dispensary, a masonry vocational training classroom, and deep water wells already constructed and serving the community. We have constructed the first orphan home, and are opening the first dental clinic in the area, both of which are expected to open in early 2024 and will be followed by a second orphan home, a pre-primary school, and several additional vocational training classrooms.
