Peer Mentor for Breast Cancer Patients - New Hampshire

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: American Cancer Society - Bedford, NH

  • 1 person is interested

The American Cancer Society's Reach To Recovery provides emotional and practical support to improve the quality of life for those touched by breast cancer through a proactive peer support model where trained breast cancer survivors provide targeted support, information, and resources.

People may feel overwhelmed, vulnerable, and alone during this difficult time. Talking with a specially trained Reach To Recovery volunteer can provide comfort and an opportunity for emotional grounding and informed decision-making. Volunteers are breast cancer survivors who give patients and their family members an opportunity to express feelings, talk about fears and concerns, and ask questions of someone who is knowledgeable and level-headed. Most importantly, Reach To Recovery volunteers offer understanding, support, and hope because they themselves have survived breast cancer and gone on to have productive lives.

We are currently seeking breast cancer survivors (female or male) who are one year past any active treatment and have physically and emotionally recovered. We provide online training to all volunteers so that they may conduct successful Reach To Recovery visits. Visits may be over the phone, through email, or in some instances face to face.

If you are a breast cancer survivor who is looking for a rewarding way to give back, please reach out to us! Volunteers needed across New Hampshire!
