Volunteer driver helps transport patient to their cancer treatment.

The American Cancer Society's Road To Recovery program provides transportation for cancer patients to and from medical appointments. Volunteer drivers donate their time and use their personal vehicle to help patients travel to their appointments and then back home.

Access to transportation is a major factor in cancer treatment. The Road To Recovery program is a highly visible community service for cancer patients who have no means of transportation or are too ill to drive themselves. Without this support, these patients might not be able to keep their critical treatment appointments.

Drivers must be between the ages of 18 and 84, have a valid drivers license, a properly working vehicle with valid tags, automobile insurance, passed a risk screening (background check, insurance verification, and Motor Vehicle Record check), and be Road To Recovery trained.

The time commitment is flexible, meaning you can decide how many rides per week/month you would like to provide, how many miles you are willing to travel, and what days of the week and times of the day you provide them. Please note that most medical appointments occur during the week from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Ride requests are typically to Elliot Hospital, Dartmouth Hitchcock Manchester, Southern NH Medical Center, or St. Joseph's Hospital; occasionally requests are received for Dartmouth Hitchcock Lebanon and to Boston, MA. Drivers are needed across the state, not just in the Manchester area!

Make a difference in the lives of cancer patients in your community today and drive with Road To Recovery!
