Home is where your family is, and a family's love is good medicine.

Friends of Fisher House Connecticut is a statewide 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports and raises money for Fisher House Foundation.

A Fisher House is a temporary, long term comfort home for the family members of injured or ill active or veteran service men and women receiving treatment at the VA or medical hospital. This allows family members to be by their loved one's side for the entirety of their treatment. Family members stay as long as they need to, totally free of charge. Fisher House will also pay to fly the family members to their loved one's bedside if they can't afford to do so themselves through our Hero Miles program.

There are currently 71 Fisher Houses throughout the United States and in February of 2017, construction begins on the campus of the West Haven VA hospital right here in Connecticut. This is a great relief to our very own Connecticut service men and women and their families, who are all too often forgotten and over-looked.

Each year, Friends of Fisher House teams up with Shop Rite grocery stores to raise money for the construction of CT's Fisher House and to support the services that Fisher House provides.

This is The Shop Rite Initiative.

Fisher House sets up tables or booths inside the entrance to participating Shop Rite's and volunteers pass out literature and pledge cards and collect donations. We will set up at Shop Rite's in Milford, East Haven, West Haven, Stratford and Hamden each weekend in June.

We need volunteers for just a few hours at a time, one day on one weekend in the month of June. There are 9 days to choose from. Volunteers can donate as much or as little of their time as they're able to.

Mission Statement

We are dedicated to the construction of a Fisher House---a Ronald MacDonald-style "comfort home"---on the grounds of the West Haven VA Health Care System.

Description

What We Do

The Fisher House Foundation builds and maintains long term residential facilities near military hospitals nationwide. The families of seriously injured soldiers need a place to stay during the long rehabilitation process.

This vital need is not covered by any other resource. Currently there are 54 Fisher Houses nationwide. Since 1990 they have provided services to over 142,000 military families who have stayed more than 3.6 million days supporting their soldier during rehabilitation.

Fisher Houses have saved these families more than $167 million in lodging and transportation costs. The facilities are supported by contributions and openings are granted in reverse order of rank, so that the lower enlisted soldiers have first chance at housing.

Underwritten by The Creed Law Firm, LLC, our organization has promised to raise $3 million for the construction of a Fisher House on the campus of the VA Healthcare System inWest Haven,CT. Once our goal is reached, Fisher House Foundation Inc. will match our funds for a total of $6 million and construction can begin. ThereforeFisher House CTis organizing fundraising events throughout the state to raise the necessary funds.
