The Happy Headquarters provides visual and performing arts education, a day habilitation program, summer camps and other social events to more than 500 children and adults with special needs such as Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, spina bifida and a host of other diagnoses. The Happy Headquarters has volunteer opportunities for people ages 13 and up. With our year-round schedule, you are sure to find a day and time that matches your availability. Volunteers report high levels of satisfaction in their experience at Merrimack Hall because of the lasting and meaningful relationships formed with the people they serve.

Happy HeARTs: Happy HeARTs is Merrimack Hall’s after-school arts education program offering a variety of arts-focused classes. This program, which runs the length of the academic year, is designed to encourage participants to explore many forms of art. Volunteers are asked to commit to these classes for one semester at a time to ensure consistency each week for participants. Volunteers receive training through orientations prior to the beginning of the academic year; however, we accept new volunteers year-round. Volunteers do not need any prior experience (i.e. dance training) but do need to be comfortable assisting students onstage in live performances. Classes for students ages 3-12 will have a one-to-one volunteer ratio. Classes for students ages 13 and older will require 5-6 volunteers per class depending on class size.
