Organization's Mission and Model: Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.

Cradles to Crayons collects new and like-new children's items through grassroots community drives and corporate donations. Donations are then processed and packaged by volunteers, and are distributed to disadvantaged children across the state through a collaborative network of social service agencies and school partners.

Volunteer Position Overview

The Champion Program at C2C is a way for adults to give back and volunteer their time atleast once a week or once every other week. Champions come in durring one of our scheduled shift times to help lead a processing station in our warehouse. A shift is two and a half hours long. The goal of these stations is to help process donated items so we can get essential items out to children in need. For example if you were to become an Outfit Station Champion you would be responcibile to assiging untrained volunteers specific outfit packs sizes we need, for example girls 2T and 4/5T. You would then go over a quick orientation that explains to the people in your station what to do and what our quality standards are. Then as people are making outfit packs you will be supervising the people, ansering questions, keeping them supplied with clothes, and keeping track of inventory.

As a Champion Volunteer Leader you will:

-Receive a complete Giving Factory station training

-Lead or co-lead volunteer groups of 10-25 people

-Enjoy working with diverse groups of people

-Help local children in need

Commitment

Excellent candidates can commit to a weekly or bi-weekly shift (2.5 hours each) for about 6 months. We are especially interested in volunteers that can come in for the following shifts. You can always cancel a shift we just ask you give us as much notice as possible.

-Wednesday (1:15-3:45)

-Thursdays (1:15-3:45)

-Fridays (9:45-12:15) or (1:15pm-3:45pm)

-Saturdays (9:45-12:15) or (1:15-3:45pm)

*if none of these shifts work for you please let me know and we can try to work something out.

Mission Statement

Founded in 2002, Cradles to Crayons is an innovative nonprofit organization that provides children living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. Cradles to Crayons also sets a foundation for lasting change by providing meaningful, tangible volunteer opportunities to thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations each year.

Description

By partnering with schools, corporations and community groups for donations, and with social-service organizations serving homeless and low-income families, we connect communities that have surplus resources--new or used items in good condition--with communities that desperately need access to those resources. We currently serve over 100,000 children per year out of our Boston location.

One of the unique components of the Cradles to Crayons operating model is the opportunity for volunteers to engage their own communities in our mission through our Community Champion Program. This program egages adults in leadership roles as a means of increasing Cradles to Crayons' capacity to engage with volunteers and community members, develop meaningful relationships, and ultimately serve more children. Champions may fulfill their role in a variety of ways- from hosting a large scale donation drive, to serving as an ambassador or maintaining one of our donation bins. Through these meaningful, hands on volunteer opportunities, we aspire to set a foundation for lasting change.
