The African People's Education and Defense Fund needs Black Student Unions to help build for the upcoming and critically needed African community Health Fair.
The Health Fair will be on Saturday, April 29th at Akwaaba Hall, 7911 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, CA.
Did you know that residents of Lake Merritt area in Oakland live an estimated 17 YEARS longer than residents of East Oakland? We want to take this on! We need your help!
Your service organization can MAKE A DIFFERENCE by:
- Organizing 5 - 50 volunteers to distribute leaflets on each door in the area around the Health Fair so that residents know that health services will be available! This is so important!
- Organizing 1 - 10 volunteers to help get our backyard community garden in shape for the Health Fair so that we can hold workshops and trainings on growing your own foods!
- Organizing 2 - 10 volunteers to get posters up in nieghborhood businesses and community centers, letting the community know the Health Fair is happening!
- Distributing the information about the Health Fair to your contacts on social media and on campus!
- Organizing 1 - 30 volunteers the day of the Health Fair to help greet participants, direct them to workshops and services, hold up signs to direct people to attend, provide security, film the event, take photos and more!
We will provide the training, the materials and the snacks! For leafletting, postering, and gardening, contact us to set up a date and time for your group to participate - we will work with your schedule!

Description
Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a non-profit store that is a fundraiser for black community empowerment programs of APEDF. We receive a truck load of donated furniture and household items every day. This is a lively, popular Grand Lake area store staffed mostly by volunteers. When you volunteer at Uhuru Furniture, you not only contribute to the success of the store, you become part of a larger movement for peace through social justice. People shop at Uhuru Furniture for low priced, top quality items and to support crucial programs for social justice for African people.
