Title: Life Skills Facilitators

Supervisor: Volunteer Coordinator

Hours and Times: Weekly-Monday-Thursday, from 6:30pm-7:30pm*

*Extended and additional Life Skills hours may be added for special programming needs

Description: Almost Home offers weekly Life Skills facilitation opportunities for volunteers interested in teaching low-income teenagers basic living skills in a relaxed classroom setting. As a single volunteer or as a group, volunteers facilitate a class that covers one our main programming’s four core competencies throughout the year; these topics include education, mental health, individual living skills, and parenting skills. Volunteers design a curriculum around a topic, present the course overview to the Volunteer Coordinator for approval, and administer the course at an agreed upon time and date. Preferred applicants will either have formal education in their particular topic, prove their professional expertise in the topic, or have past experience presenting their topic in similar settings.

This position is available to everyone 18 years old or over and it is takes place Monday-Thursday from 6:15pm-7:30pm weekly. The position has flexible commitment requirements and can accommodate both reoccurring and single course curriculums. Hours for Life Skills Facilitation are consistent throughout the year except during holidays and special events.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must prove working knowledge, education, or expertise in subject matter
  • Must have previous experience teaching with or presenting material to groups
  • Must be familiar with Almost Home’s mission, vision, and serviced population
  • Must be able to collaborate with multiple agency departments in order to insure material is consistent with programming criteria

Having a basic knowledge of clients dealing with sexual and domestic violence is helpful, but not mandatory, for this position.


  • Engage teenagers in a creative but informative manner while facilitating Life Skills class
  • Create, teach, and document a curriculum with clear goals and outcomes
  • Lead discussions and reflections on the material with teenage members
  • Collaboratively evaluate the class’s effectiveness and reception with the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Adhere to Almost Home’s confidentiality terms and accurately follow agency’s safety procedures
  • Act as a positive role model who inspires members to be the best version of themselves
  • Keep the classroom clean and organized
  • Communicate with other staff, volunteers, and clients in a clear and professional manner
  • Support and maintain the vision and mission of Almost Home

  • Support an agency dedicated to ending the cycle of poverty by helping young mothers to become self-sufficient
