ORGANIZATION: Science Museum of Minnesota
Please visit the new page to apply.
Station Assistants work closely with Park Rangers to help set up, pass out and collect equipment, engage children during their time at the learning station, clean up and move gear as necessary. Supervising Park Ranger will work directly with the Station Assistant to ensure they are comfortable and understand their duties.
Station Assistants should have a general knowledge of the Mississippi River and the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area or the demonstrated ability and/or interest to learn such material. A general knowledge of National Parks and their values is also desirable. Station Assistants should dress appropriately and present a friendly, professional attitude. A t-shirt or vest uniform will be provided.
Station Assistants will work on board the Padelford riverboat leaving from Harriet Island in Saint Paul. Big River Journey is a national award-winning, science-based field trip for students in grades 4-6. There may be some heavy lifting (rocks), but little other strenuous activity involved with this position. Volunteers will have to use stairs to reach different decks of the boat; if you are unable to navigate stairs, please inform volunteer coordinator before agreeing to perform certain learning stations. Raised thresholds are present. Entry to the boat is via a sloping wooden ramp.
