We are a small non-profit dedicated to the preservation of and education about Wisconsin's ancient earthworks known as the effigy mounds. Doing this work involves a wide range of skills, from surveying and precise mapping, to researching historical information and the use of GIS and LiDar technology and much more. We are roughly organized into 3 areas with Mapping, Public Outreach, and Office & Administration. We would love to have more volunteers in all of these categories, as well as those to fill board positions.
Current volunteers range from students to retired professors, from all walks of life. We work closely with Native Americans, especially those from the Ho-Chunk Nation. We are willing to teach new skills to our volunteers. If you are looking for an opportunity to take on a number of different roles, this may be the place for you! We hold public meetings every third Saturday of the month in Monona if you would like to attend. Details can be found on our website.
