Reports To: Outreach Director

Supervises: None

Time Commitment: 4-15 weekly hours

Organization Overview

The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, to provide and enhance care and support for all affected, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Association operates out of its main office in Houston with regional offices in Galveston, Beaumont and Lufkin.

Internship Overview

The Alzheimer’s Association intern will provide awareness and marketing support for Chapter program and services through program assistance in Walker and N. Montgomery County. This is a Huntsville based position.

Essential job functions

  • Identify, recruit, train, and manage high impact student volunteers who will assist the Association in increasing concern, awareness and support for people with dementia and their families.
  • Serve as community liaison by participating in community networking events, serving as local spokesperson, and building collaborative efforts with other organizations.
  • Represent organization at health fairs, informational sessions and coordinate community education presentations
  • With staff help, lead Chapter Education presentations as-needed
  • Recruit participants and promote the Association’s signature fundraising event - 2017 N. Harris/Montgomery County Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
  • Work with staff to organize and host Walk to End Alzheimer’s wrap around events - Volunteer Kickoff Party, Past Team Registration Party, New Team Kickoff and Post Walk Celebration Party in support of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Sophomore or Junior working towards a bachelor’s degree in public health, education, public relations, marketing, communications or related field.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to take initiative, set priorities, work independently, and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Public speaking skills
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to function in a team oriented environment as both a member of a team and a team leader
