Mission Statement
The mission of Loaves and Fishes is to feed the hungry of Contra Costa County by providing free hot nutritious meals at five dining facilities. What We've Accomplished Since 1983, Loaves and Fishes has served over 4,500,000 meals to many thousands of hungry people throughout Contra Costa County. We have recruited volunteers and built an organization that has grown to serving over 136,000 meals each year and provide over 252 tons of groceries through food pantries located at each dining room. Help make a difference in the lives of hungry people. We also have a 10-week free culinary arts program that allows people to learn how to work in a commercial kitchen and be assisted in finding a job in the culinary industry.
Description
OUR MISSION
The Mission of Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa is to provide community-based food programs and partner services that focus on basic needs.
WHO WE ARE
Loaves and Fishes is a Contra Costa-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves those in need by providing free hot meals Monday through Friday between 11:00am and 12:45pm. We rely on over 800 volunteers each year to support our mission.
WHAT WE DO
At our central kitchen in Pittsburg, we prepare nutritious hot meals, deliver them to our five dining rooms and then serve them to our clients in Antioch, Bay Point, Pittsburg, Oakley and Martinez. Since our founding in 1983, we have served over 4.7 million meals to those in need in our community and distributed more than 252 tons of groceries including fresh produce, vegetables and nonperishables through our food pantries at each dining room. Our volunteers collect food from our food partners, assist our chef by prepping and cooking in our central kitchen and serve more than 11,000 meals each month. We also provide meals to Trinity Center in Walnut Creek and Opportunity Junction in Antioch. Additionally, we offer a free, 10-week basic Culinary Arts Program to individuals who are experiencing barriers to employment and have an interest in the Culinary Industry.
