Zoo Ambassador

Position Summary:

  • Zoo Ambassadors will welcome and assist visitors at Zoo Boise.


  • Host and educate visitors at the Zoo Farm - a significant source of Zoo Boise Conservation Fund revenue. Includes assisting with animal feeding and upkeep of Zoo Farm visitor area.
  • Engage zoo visitors with the use of animal artifacts, focusing on topics of animal biology, habitats, ecology, and conservation
  • Provide information to visitors concerning the Zoo, Zoo Boise Conservation Fund, directions, guidelines, programs, and events
  • Professionally represent Zoo Boise while volunteering or when in uniform
  • Review and be familiar with zoo programs and events in order to provide accurate information


  • Must be over 18 years’ old
  • Must commit to a minimum of 24 hours of service between May 14th-September 4th (at least 3 times per month)

Shift Times: 10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00, 2:00-4:00

  • Must commit to volunteering at one Zoo Boise event per calendar year
  • Must complete an 8-hour volunteer orientation
  • Successfully complete an introductory period of 10 hours
  • Pay a $20 volunteer fee
  • Attend a volunteer interview
  • Abide by all policies in the Volunteer Handbook
  • Enjoy working with people of all ages
  • Desire to further develop customer service, public speaking, and teaching skills as a family (training provided)
  • Interested in education the public about wildlife conservation
  • Must submit a negative TB test
  • Must be willing to submit to a Federal background check if deemed necessary by Zoo Boise staff


  • Friends of Zoo Boise Pass- volunteers are eligible after a 10-hour introductory period
    • Unlimited admission to Zoo Boise for length of volunteer service
    • Discounts on education programs and gift shop or food purchases
  • Zoo Boise Day Passes - Receive one-day pass for every 15 volunteer hours completed
  • Pride in enhancing Zoo Boise, a community asset and wildlife conservation leader
