NatureBridge in Southern California is looking for enthusiastic, experienced individuals to join our volunteer event committee. This committee, currently composed of local board members and donors, helps articulate the vision and goals of our annual fundraiser, Moving Mountains, held the first Thursday of each October on the Westside of Los Angeles.

We will meet (via phone) approximately once per month, February/March through October, and once in person approximately one month prior to the event. We also ask that you dedicate 1 hour a week/4 hours per month accomplishing the goals of the committee.

Each committee member must attend Moving Mountains on October 4 th . You and a guest get free admission to the event. You will also be recognized on our website and in other event materials!

The Event Lead/Development Manager is responsible for:

  • Budget management and oversight
  • Final selection of vendors
  • Contracts with vendors
  • Final selection of guest speakers
  • Finalizing the timeline
  • Maintaining communication with NatureBridge staff
  • Ensuring all outreach materials conform to the NatureBridge style guide
  • Working with NatureBridge staff and educators to integrate the mission of NatureBridge into the event
  • Overseeing check in and check out

We need the Event Committee’s help with:

  • FUNDRAISING. We have a $75k fundraising goal this year, composed of sponsorships ($35k), ticket sales ($11k), regret donations ($14k), night-of donations including the ask and auction ($20k). To accomplish this, we need to get people in the room who can buy full-priced tickets and make donations, sponsors, and auction items. Furthermore, we need your help at the event encouraging guests to bid, raise the paddle, and engage with NatureBridge staff
  • Working with staff to identify potential sponsors for the event
  • Recruiting volunteers - we need volunteers to help staff our sub-comittees, as well as day-of volunteers to help set up, check in guests, and more
  • D?cor - selection, set up, and clean up
  • Identifying potential vendors such as photographers, florists, entertainment
  • Auction item procurement
  • Timeline/event flow suggestions
  • Celebrity/VIP guests, emcee, guest speaker suggestions
  • Providing timely, constructive feedback to Event Lead

New this year, we will have three sub-committees. Sitting on a sub-committee is optional. You can recruit volunteers to join the sub-committees:

  1. Auction Item Procurement
    Each year we have a small silent auction with items of interest to our guests, usually packaged. This year, we would like to have 6-10 packages.
  • Holds a procurement brainstorming party to identify items to target for donation
  • Locates and gathers items for both the silent and live auctions
  • Item request letter and donation form will be provided to you by Event Lead
  • Sends thank you letters to item donors
  1. Guest Experience
    We want Moving Mountains to be a beautiful event that drives home the mission of NatureBridge. We also want it to be a fun night out.
  • Makes suggestions for entertainment
  • Works with lighting, A/V and sound crews
  • Determines what decorations are needed based on the theme
  • Reviews invite list
  • Help with guest speaker selection
  • Makes suggestions/fundraises for any "extras" not included in the budget, such as a swag bag
  • Hosts a thank you letter writing party after the event to follow up and personally thank each sponsor and attendee

  1. Social Media/Promotions/PR
  • Identifies and engages with social media influencers to promote the event/NatureBridge
  • Creates a social media plan to promote the event via Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, community calendars, etc.
  • Researches/compiles media list
  • Creates and sends press releases
  • Acts as the point of contact for any press/influencers the night of the event
  • Take photos, live-tweet, post Instagram stories during the event
