Brighten an aging actor’s week! Be a friendly visitor to Calvin, a kind and amiable senior who is living with Alzheimer’s disease. Calvin is an actor who has lived in the Times Square area of Manhattan his whole life. He likes to wear a bow tie every day, always looks dapper, and always has a smile on his face.
Calvin would love a friendly visitor to converse with and liven up his week. However, Calvin’s Alzheimer’s is fairly advanced, and it limits his conversational abilities. We are looking for volunteers who have experience with Alzheimer’s disease (in a professional or personal capacity). There is a short orientation and training for this program, but we want someone who is familiar with and comfortable around individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.

Description
Encore Community Services is a multi-purpose, not-for-profit, nonsectarian agency serving the needs of poor, frail, homebound, mentally impaired and homeless elderly. Founded in 1977, Encore provides services to more than 14,000 elderly men and women annually. Services include: congregate, home-delivered & weekend meals, shop & escort service, friendly visiting, holiday meals, educational & recreational activities, telephone assurance, health & social services counseling, supportive housing for formerly homeless and mentally impaired eldely. These services are provided at the Encore 49 Residence and Encore Senior Center, located at St. Malachy's, The Actors' Chapel.
