At HandyCapable Network, we see the ABILITY in everyone. We work with individuals with special needs who volunteer their time giving back to our community. The biggest way we do this is through the refurbishing and recycling of donated computers and computer equipment. Our "HandyTechs" repurpose computers to be distributed into the community to those who need affordable technology.
Our HandyTechs work as many or as few hours as they like. Because they are all volunteers, they work at their own pace. HandyTechs must be able to work independently. Assistants are welcome to come to HandyCapable, too, if necessary.
The only requirement to come to HandyCapable is that you have a documented developmental, intellectual or physical disability, and that you want to be here!
If you want to be part of something special in an inclusive environment that serves an important role in our community, come check out HandyCapable Network. Please call Anne Tubaugh, Executive Director, for more information.

Mission Statement
To enrich the lives of people with special needs by teaching them technology skills in an inclusive environment. Through our efforts, HandyCapable Network provides greater access to technology to economically challenged people and nonprofits.
Description
HandyCapable started nearly 10 years ago out of a program funded by the ARC of Greensboro to put computer learning labs in group homes for developmentally disabled individuals. Realizing that these individuals could do more than just search the internet, our founder, Barbara Davis, taught these individuals - whom she later named "HandyTechs," how to take apart donated computer desktops and replace hard drives, upgrade memory, and diagnose other computer issues. The program grew to include 12 HandyTechs and soon the computers they were refurbishing were being redistributed back into the community to low-income families and individuals, mainly identified through the school system. Today, HandyCapable has distributed more than 5,500 computers to low-income individuals in our community, but the need for affordable technology still exists.
HandyCapable has also recycled more than 50 tons of metals and plastics that normally would end up in landfills, harming our environment with their lead content and other harmful materials. Money from recycling goes directly back into our program to fund our mission.
