This beautiful area of the Cuyama River, near the Dick Smith Wilderness will be amazing in spring. The expansive riverbed is full of riparian wonder, wide but not too deep. We'll make base camp Saturday morning, then head out day hiking along the river on a tamarisk hunt. We'll be spraying herbicide on the basal bark (bottom few inches) of tamarisk plants as we go. Simple work with little physical exertion, but it's uneven terrain with no trail. We'll head back in the afternoon to enjoy a community feast and campout under the starry night sky.

Sunday morning we'll work a few hours in the morning before heading out for an early arrival home. This a great trip if you like to camp and hike, but aren't quite up for a backpack. You just need basic camping gear and your spirit of adventure. Habitat Works Volunteers have been removing tamarisk on over 298 miles of watershed since 2003.
