Celtic Volunteers visit with patients in the Inpatient Hospice Unit in Wilkes Barre-PA; provide companionship to patients in skilled nursing facilities in Luzerne, Lackawanna, Carbon, Monroe, Pike, and Wayne counties; and provide respite or companionship to patients in their homes.
Volunteers also assist with clerical duties and work with the bereavement program by writing condolence letters to families or making condolence calls to the bereaved. Volunteers make calls for our Tuck In Program to make sure our families have all the supplies and medications they need for the weekend.
Celtic is partnered with We Honor Veterans, performing pinning ceremonies, sending cards, and pairing a volunteer who is a veteran to a patient who is a veteran.
All volunteers receive background checks, TB tests, and are fully trained. Volunteers are supported by the Volunteer Cooridinator.

Mission Statement
Our highest calling is to provide comfort and compassionate care to those facing end of life by meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the whole person and their loved ones. Celtic Hospice care has a philosophy of care recognizing death as the final stage of life. At this sacred time, our purpose is to enable patients to continue an alert, pain-free life and to manage other symptoms so they may live each day with dignity. We value the quality of life even more than the duration of this journey together. Our mission-focused hospice care is not about death; it is about living life as fully as possible. At Celtic Hospice, we affirm life and do not hasten or postpone death. It is our privilege to care for our patients and their loved ones as if they were our own.
