CLC Learners and Volunteers

"Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope." -Kofi Annan

We hope you will join us as a volunteer at Community Learning Center! Community Learning Center (CLC), an adult literacy agency, offers education classes free of charge to adults in Philadelphia. We serve a variety of adults including people who are immigrants, people with low-income, parents, people who have not been in a classroom since they dropped out of high school, people who work and are ready to get the education they need to continue to improve their lives.

We provide a range of services including:

  • Working with learners to improve their basic math and reading skills

  • Preparing learners to obtain a high school equivalency degree

  • Helping learners transition into post-secondary education

  • Developing the workforce skills of our learners

CLC needs volunteers to work with our adult learners as tutors, classroom assistants, computer coaches, and more. We hope you will volunteer with us.

The requirements for volunteers are:

1) Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

2) Volunteer tutors must have at least a bachelor's degree (or be working towards a bachelor's degree) from an accredited institution.

3) We ask that volunteers are able to commit to at least one 6-8 week learning cycle.

4) Volunteers must have patience, dedication to our learners, and flexibility

Community Learning Center is open Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5pm.

Tutoring/Classroom volunteering hours typically are:

  • 9am - 11:30am, or 12pm - 2:30pm

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please email Volunteer@communitylearningcenter.org with a resume, and a brief message about why you are interested in volunteering. We look forward to hearing from you!
