International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT): College of Agriculture Science has requested the support of two Farmer-to-Farmer volunteers for a 18- day volunteer assignment (including travel) located in Dhaka. The volunteers will work with a taskforce, formed by the host, to develop curriculum for new Master of Science (MS) in Agriculture majors in Agronomy and in Horticulture. The volunteer will review the draft curriculum already prepared by the taskforce and review existing curriculum of different reputable national and international universities, including the US. The volunteers will also meet with relevant stakeholders. Then, in consultation with the taskforce members, they will develop the curriculum, and finalize through a stakeholder workshop organized by the host.
IUBAT, the first non-government university in Bangladesh, was established in 1991. Since then, the university has been offering a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSAg) degree to address the human resource needs in the field of agricultural extension, research, and education. Currently the country needs well-equipped and educated professionals with higher degrees in agriculture. Considering the demand in the job market and students’ interest, IUBAT has decided to start a MSAg Program with majors in Agronomy and Horticulture. The curriculum for each major should incorporate new and advanced ideas and applied knowledge from external reputable universities. IUBAT intends to develop a curricula, which is more applicable and useful for demand-driven and climate-resilient solutions to address the emerging problems in the agriculture sector.
IUBAT strictly maintains North American curriculum in all of its undergraduate programs. The university would like to continue this practice and base their MS in Agriculture Program on North American curricula and syllabi as well. Hence, the host has requested F2F volunteers’ technical assistance to develop curricula for MS Agriculture programs in Agronomy and Horticulture.
