You've spent a long time becoming successful in your profession. You have great skills, whether in residential or commercial real estate. And now, God, chance, or something else is giving you the chance to put those special skills to work to accomplish something few people could.
First, the background, then, the challenge. We are Changing Footprints (www.changingfootprints.org). We are a local nonprofit, founded in 2005, and we collect used shoes, sort them, and provide them to organizations that put them on the feet of those in need. 60+ organizations like Wheeler Mission, Children's Bureau, Coburn Safe Place, and Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation. We are a 100% volunteer organization, working from donated space with donated supplies to now provide 25,000 pairs of shoes a year locally, nationally, and to a small extent, internationally, to those in need. Because everything is donated, we don't need to collect funds, we just collect shoes.
That's where you come in. Changing Footprints has four locations. Rushville operates out of a historic warehouse that is shared, rent-free, with another nonprofit. Indianapolis operates out of a 2000 sf room at 9302 N. Meridian Street (for as long as they don't rent it to someone else. Greenfield operates in the loft of the business of one of our board members. And Greenwood? They collect shoes and truck them to one of the other locations, and go there occasionally to sort. Not very practical.
What would be practical would be to find some generous soul on the south side of Indianapolis/Greenwood/Johnson County who had a 500 - 4000 sf room/building/barn which is currently unused. Perhaps in a lousy part of town, or not renovated, or just unneeded. Who would be willing to loan it to a worthwhile nonprofit for as long as they didn't need it (and not a second longer) who could do a LOT of good in their community.
But how would we find such a person, such a property? Honestly, we wait until God or lightning strikes, we ask around, we do all those things because we aren't a professional. A professional who could use their wicked skills to MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE - who could single-handedly increase the number of shoes going to those in need by 5000 per year.

Mission Statement
Changing Footprints realizes the great need for shoes around the world as protection from diseases and a gateway to education. Because of that need we collect new and gently used shoes for distribution to homeless, disaster-stricken, or underprivileged people locally, nationally, and internationally regardless of race, religion, gender, or ethnicity.
Description
Changing Footprints collects used shoes from a variety of sources: collection bins at shoe stores and churches, shoe drives by schools, churches, civic and governmental agencies, and donations of customer returns by shoe companies. We sort, classify by type, and quality check, and then provide the right type of shoes at no charge to agencies, individuals, and organizations who put them on the feet of those in need. We are a 100% volunteer organization with no paid staff and provide 15,000 pair of shoes per year to those in need, locally, in the US, and to international destinations. This diverts shoes otherwise destined for landfills to a important cause, educates our youth that they can make a personal difference, helps those in need, as well as those that volunteer their time, effort, and ideas. We are a flat organization that supports any volunteer with an idea they would like to try - in the words of our youth, "it's all good".
