Certified Dog Therapy Service Banner Estrella Medical Center

Are you "and" your dog intereed in becoming of our most appreciated volunteer opportunities. Each STAR DOG "team"consists of a Certified Therapy Dog and its Volunteer Owner. We call the dogs "therapists" because of their ability to raise the spirits of patients and staff alike.

Physical Benefits: Studies have shown that petting a dog can improve a person’s blood pressure and heart rate, and can actually release endorphins that can block pain.

Patients can relax when a therapy dog is present and petting a dog can calm a person who is angry, afraid, upset or depressed

Morale Booster: A visit with a therapy dog may help a patient feel less lonely or depressed. Dogs have a way of accepting without qualification just the way you are. Because of that, most people can’t help but feel happy when they see a happy dog!

Qualifications of Therapy Dogs

Therapy Dogs can be any breed as long as they have a good temperament and are "Certified" as a Thearpy Dog. If you dog is not yet certified we can assist in gaining this certification.
