Essex County Habitat for Humanity
Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity will be building for the first time in its 30+ years in the Salisbury community. After delivering 92 homeownership opportunities to families within Haverhill, Lawrence and Methuen - we are excited to be bringing homeownership opportunities to deserving families within the northern part of our service area.
We are building 7 units - three family side-by-side home and a single home. Traditionally it takes about 18 months to complete a build. Come out and build with us on: Thursdays and Saturdays.
We are looking for skilled and non-skilled volunteers.
For skilled - construction and subcontracting trade volunteers (electric, plumbing and roofing) - these volunteers traditionally come out to support installing the electric or plumbing after pulling permits, or help us to oversee volunteers with their supervision. Our skilled construction volunteers are usually individuals who have some basic skills of home repair and feel comfortable with tools and help supervise non-skilled volunteers.
We welcome volunteers with no skills - all that is required is an eagerness to learn and participate. You can work with us for one day or set a regular schedule to come out and support the effort for the entire build.
We also schedule company and organizational build days where corporations and community groups - including local faith communities bring out a build team of up to 12 volunteers, and spend a day working with us.

We believe that a stable community begins with home ownership. By giving this opportunity to economically disadvantaged people in our community, we are enabling them to take control of their lives. Habitat’s ultimate goal is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the world by providing homeownership opportunities to those in need. Essex County Habitat for Humanity is part of a global nonprofit housing ministry that works in partnership with people in need to build or renovate simple decent homes. Habitat for Humanity is founded on the conviction that everyone should have a safe and decent place to live. Our programs bring people together - both at the community level and in the broader society (government, civic organizations, the general public, etc.) to build homes to be owned by families in the communities we serve in Essex County.
We form unique partnerships between volunteer builders, skilled craftsmen, individual donors, faith communities, businesses, and prospective homeowners. Each Habitat homeowner must complete 300 hours of "sweat"equity working vith volunteers to build their own home, homes for other famlies, while also completing a series of morgage and personal finance classes.
We'll work with your schedule.
