We are looking for a volunteer Bilingual Citizenship teacher that can dedicate 2 hours on Fridays from 2 to 4pm (Can be changed to 2:30-4:30 or 3-5)
Our organization is located in the South Bronx and we serve a large community of immigrants. Many of our clients seek to prepare for their upcoming Citizenship exam and interview.
Our class was created to assist those students with preparing them for the 100 questions for the citizenship exam and the oral interview portion of the test.
Students also learn about American culture and history and enhance their abilities to read, write, and speak English.
Qualifications required:
- Speaks English and Spanish fluently
- Has worked in a small or large group setting
- Has some knowledge of American history
- Is comfortable with creating and/or enhancing new or current curriculum
- Has some familiarlity or can quickly learn about the Citizenship process.
This person must be reliable and follows the schedule agreed upon at the time of volunteering.
Someone that has experience with preparing documents for the citizenship test would be a plus.
We are looking for a volunteer that will be dependable and able to teach every Friday (excluding holidays) for each 6 week session (two in total):
February 24th to March 31st, 2017
April 21st to May 26th, 2017 (Off for April 14th)
We ofcourse are happy to have someone that will be willing to work longterm as a volunteer teacher but atleast expect 2 sessions covered each volunteer term.
We provide groceries twice a month to the volunteer teacher as a thank you.

Description
The HopeLine is now utilizing a threefold approach to intervene in the cycle of poverty so prevalent in the South Bronx;
1. Food Pantry to meet the most basic nutritional needs of our clients.
2. Clothing Bank to provide clothing for needy families.
3. Educational programs including Citizenship, ESL, Computer, and Nutrition classes to begin educating our neighborhood so they can create better futures for themselves and their families.
