The YMCA provides FREE swim lessons for all 2nd grade children in the Independence School District and is looking for help from the community to help manage large numbers of student on the pool deck. The Y is looking for about 10 volunteers on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4:30-6:00pm to help assist certified swim instructors with thier lessons. Volunteers are need starting the week of Febuary 6th and every Monday and Tuesday from there on until March 7th.
Volunteers are not required to come everyday that swim lessons are offered, but we would ask that volunteers try to come several times during the session.
Background checks are required and a pre-service meeeting is required to go over what your volunteer postion will be during the swim lessons.
The Y's goal is teach over 500 2nd graders how to be safe around water and lear to swim basics. With the support of community volunteers we feel that goal is obtainable.
