Purpose: Encourage the interaction and relationship between animals and residents to promote comfort, love and healing.
Requirements:
- Provide facility with any visiting animal’s current vaccinations upon starting visits and annually thereafter
- Animal must be registered and have a license and tag from the county
- Know the animal and its temperament and aggression/bite history
- Know how to recognize the signs of fearfulness of individuals around the animal
- Assure that animal is clean and healthy
- Clean any mess the animal may make while in the facility
Responsibilities:
- Sign in and out in the volunteer log every visit
- Maintain control of animal at all times - must be on a leash at all times while on the property
- Avoid contact with residents that are fearful or anxious around the animal
- Immediately report any bite, scratch or other injury from the animal
- Structure time so that all residents wanting to participate are able
- Introduce animal by name and any additional facts
- Control any feeding of the animal
- Notify your supervisor immediately if any injury, fall, change in condition or concern about any resident - assist with any incident report as necessary
Time Commitment:
- Ongoing scheduled visits 1-4 hours
- 1-4 hour visits
