Purpose: Encourage the engagement, education and enjoyment of residents in their outdoor spaces and specifically contribution to our gathering and expanding local phoenix community gardens.
Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of plants, flowers and vegetables indigenous to the area
- Knowledge of safe use of gardening equipment - manual and motorized
- Ability to teach and maintain safety with equipment and environmental hazards
- Know who and how to contact in the event of any injury or emergency
- Know how to recognize potential dangerous plants or insects
- Ability to manage project to completion
Responsibilities:
- Sign in and out in the volunteer log every visit
- Engage residences in work according to physical and cognitive abilities
- Maintain a safe environment while working
- Provide hydration, shade and breaks for working crew
- Till, plant, weed, fertilize, mulch and water per project
- Immediately report to your supervisor any injury, insect bite, fall or change in condition of a resident - assist with any incident report as necessary
- Immediately report to your supervisor any damage to property or equipment - assist with any incident report as necessary
- Return equipment to storage area
- Attend focus panels including residents and community partners
- Assist with development and fair planning of community garden plots
Time Commitment:
- This position may be a one-time visit 2-8 hours
- Potential for ongoing scheduled visits to assist with garden maintenance 1-4 hours
- 1-4 hour visits
