Purpose: Facilitate the safe and comfortable mobility of residents from their housing sites to appointments, events and errands in the community.
Requirements:
- Annual proof of driver’s license minimum age 25 with a minimum of 5 years driving
- Annual proof of liability insurance at or above state regulated standards
- Background check including, drivers BMV record check
- Knowledge of local geography and locations of streets and landmarks
- Maintain a mechanically sound and clean car with smoke free environment
- Cell phone possession and operation for emergency purposes
- Understand and demonstrate the safe loading and unloading of passengers with/without assistive devices or limitations.
Responsibilities:
- Sign in and out in the volunteer log every visit
- Check in with property staff alerting them of resident(s) departure and estimate time of return to property
- Maintain a safe environment while working
- Assist with entry and egress from the vehicle following all road safety rules
- Assure the resident is wearing a seatbelt at all times
- Abide by all speed and traffic laws
- Provide for temperature control that is acceptable to the resident
- If asked to make additional stops not originally on the itinerary, contact your volunteer supervisor before doing so
- In the event of an accident assure as soon as possible that the resident is comfortable, provide first aid as knowledgeable and contact emergency responders immediately. Contact volunteer supervisor once the situation is stabilized.
- Report to your supervisor any damage to property or equipment - assist with any incident report as necessary
