ORGANIZATION: Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary

Dorflinger Glass Museum Gift Shop
Surround yourself with colorful glass as you volunteer.

Help visitors and area residents purchase beautiful glass gifts in one of the prettiest spots in the county. Enjoy interacting with people from all over the world. Duties are simple-use a point of sale system to record purchases (you'll be trained, but it's not complicated); wrap the purchases and send visitors on their way. When you're not too busy, you can dust and stock. You'll have plenty of opprotunities to meet like-minded people, learn about glass, and relax. Plus volunteers get a discount on items. It's not stuffy...it's fun!

About Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary

Location:

P.O. Box 356, Long Ridge Road & Elizabeth Streets, White Mills, PA 18473, US

Mission Statement

In 1980, the Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary, Inc., was formed to further natural history, conservation, artistic and cultural education and to serve the people as an agency for popular enlightenment, cultural improvement and scientific progress, recognizing through its programs the essential relationship among the natural, artistic and historic elements of the area.

Description

The Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary offers nature trails for observing indigenous wildlife and waterfowl within its 600 acres. The Dorflinger Glass Museum on the grounds is located in part in the former home of Christian Dorflinger, whose famous glass factories produced fine crystal for presidents, kings and the public between 1852 and 1921. Visitors enjoy hundreds of fine cut, etched, engraved, gilded and enameled crystal, one of the largest public display of Dorflinger's crystal in the world. On Saturday evenings from the end of June to mid-August, the Wildflower Music Festival concerts are held in a natural amplitheater. The Sanctuary also maintains several historic buildings in the village of White Mills, once home to the workers in the glass factories. The 1867 Glassworker's Cottage and the 1911 White Mills Fire House are open to the public at selected dates during the season.
