Mission Statement

The Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives preserves the heritage and interprets the stories of the American Protestant Missionaries, their descendants, and their relationships with the people and cultures of Hawai`i, connecting with contemporary life, and encouraging a deeper understanding and appreciation for the complex history that continues to shape Hawai`i. -Mission Statement, adopted 2010

Description

Mission Houses Museum was established in 1920 by the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society (HMCS), a non-profit educational institution and genealogical society. In 1974, the museum was granted full accreditation by the American Association of Museums (AAM).
Today, HMCS continues to gather genealogical data from descendants of the original Protestant missionary families who lived and worked in Hawai`i. Descendants are encouraged to explore their genealogies and to support Mission Houses Museum and the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society in preserving their heritage.
