Purpose: the purpose of the Grant Writing Volunteer is to develop and write grant proposals to grant-making organizations and persuasively communicate Heart of Courage's mission and programs to potential funders.

Requirements:

• College degree, preferred
• Knowledge of grant application process & writing of proposals
• Knowledge of various grant programs available to nonprofit organizations
• Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
• Self-motivated, reliable, organized and thorough
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines for grant opportunities
• Ability to take initiative and work independently

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Work closely with the CEO to research grant programs and plans and draft funding proposals & applications
• Work closely with the CEO to develop and implement an annual development plan/strategy to increase annual grant income
• Assemble/submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations
• Edit draft applications for accuracy, completeness, and clarity
• Provide timely advice and information on funding opportunities, requirements, and procedures

Volunteers with Heart of Courage will acquire front-line position experience in a volunteer-run organization. As a new organization, volunteers for Heart of Courage will gain knowledge in non-profit development and start-up experience. Our volunteers are vital to the growth of our organization, each person is treated with respect and their skill-set is held at the highest regard to accomplish tasks that inspire each person.
