The non-profit Center for Amazon Community Ecology promotes forest conservation, creates sustainable livelihoods for forest peoples and supports healthy communities in the Amazon rainforest. We are currently helping to develop and market innovative handicrafts and essential oils with 15 native and campesino communities in the Peruvian Amazon. We have recently launched the online Amazon Forest Store (www.amazonforeststore.org) to help sell their crafts.
We plan to use a lot of photos (and video) to help visitors to this store and our social media sites to make the strongest possible connection between our artisan partners and the public. I would like to use facial recognition software to compare photos of our known artisans to a large collection of raw images of photos taken in the villages over the past 11 years. I have not found an out of the box solution to do this, but there are many APIs available that a programer could use to create an application for us. Please contact us if you can help do this for us.
We would ideally like to be able to do this working with a program that would be self-contained on a PC laptop. If this is not possible, we could compare our known photos to the unknown photos online.
