Become a Cancer Resource Center Volunteer at Kingman Regional Medical Center in partnership with the American Cancer Society. This is a brand new resource center, and we are looking for dedicated volunteers to join us!
Assist cancer patients and their loved ones navigate their cancer journey by delivering timely information and referral to resources.
Enhance the quality of life for patients undergoing cancer treatment by the optimal utilization of American Cancer Society services and programs, community-based services and healthcare facility services. As a Cancer Resource Volunteer, you can help break down barriers to treatment, information and much more by linking patients to needed information (patient education materials) and ACS services and other appropriate resources.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to commit to a consistent day/time of the week (preferably 4-hour period) to volunteer at Center. (Operation hours: M-TH 7:30am to 4:30pm, Fri: 7:30am to Noon)
- A desire to work with cancer patients and their families (or caregivers) in a hospital setting.
- Ability to communicate clearly in-person, via telephone and in-writing.
- Successful completion of all volunteer training and compliance with all Hospital Volunteer expectations.
- Must be 18+ years of age and one year post last active-cancer treatment
Support Provided:
- Must attend Kingman Regional Medical Center Hospital Orientation and Volunteer Training
- Must attend one monthly meeting at KRMC
- Must attend an American Cancer Society training provided by ACS Staff Partner.
- Hospital Uniform and Appropriate Badging Provided
- All applicants must be willing to undergo TB test, background check, yearly flu shot, and application completion.
Expectations of Volunteers (after training):
- Knowledge of resources and information to refer/direct patients and families to
- Guide patients and family members seeking information to approved materials/information in an inviting/welcoming manner.
- Accommodate the needs of walk-in cancer patients and families with wigs, head scarves, hat, etc.
- Adhere to patient confidentiality and standards at ALL times.
- Document and track all service referrals per ACS program
- Notify KRMC and ACS coordinators of any issues, re-stocking needed, etc.
