The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is looking for new volunteers!
The park will be hosting a two-day training for new Visitor Center/Mission Coverage Volunteers on February 25th and March 4th. Some of the volunteer duties include professionally representing the National Park Service, giving out information at our visitor center, answering questions both in person and over the phone, and general customer service. There is also potential to give guided programs in the future.
Volunteers are expected to work a 4 hour shift in the morning or afternoon at one of the four missions the National Park operates in San Antonio. The greatest need for volunteers at the San Antonio Missions are Saturday and Sunday, but there are opportunities to volunteer other days of the week. Potential volunteers will need to commit to a mandatory training on the dates mentioned above. After the initial training, we will require four additional half-day on the job training shifts on Saturday or Sunday, before taking on a permanent schedule.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with the National Park Service and learning more about the history and culture of San Antonio, while protecting and preserving a World Heritage site, please email saan_volunteers@nps.gov by February 11th.

Mission Statement
Since 1916, the American people have entrusted the National Park Service with the care of their national parks. The National Park Service preserves, unimpaired, the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Our history is part of who we were, who we are, and who we will be. The National Park Service invites you to discover American history in all its diversity at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.
Description
The primary goal of San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is to help the public understand the Spanish colonial role and impact in the Southwest. Through understanding, park visitors will appreciate the significance of the missions, and help to preserve them.
Volunteer-in-Parks (VIPs) are public-spirited people of all ages, walks of life, and educational backgrounds. Though they are individually different, they share a common interest - a love for the missions and national parks, and a desire to impart their enthusiasm and knowledge to others.
VIPs supplement the efforts of full-time employees. Tasks include everything from conducting wildlife and plant surveys to leading guided tours to performing clerical duties to maintaining park facilities.
