ORGANIZATION: The Salvation Army of Sarasota County

Duties: Teach ex-offenders how to successfully navigate aspects of employment from job searching to resume-writing to interviewing, with an emphasis on how to address legal issues in a positive way.

Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively in a classroom setting and one-on-one; ability to adapt curriculum to changing needs. Prepare materials and handouts, teach and respond to questions, contribute to awareness of class in community, track attendance and other measures.

Work Schedule: Two hours of instruction (one hour twice a month on Fridays).

  • Pathway of Hope - helping families overcome barriers like unemployment, unstable housing and lack of education.
  • Life Recovery Programs - provides individualized, life-saving services to adult men and women who are homeless, addicted to drugs or alcohol, or are incarcerated.
  • Quality of Life - proactive housing-focused services, to include an emergency shelter for adults 18 and older.
  • Community Centers - youth programs, community fellowship groups, senior programs, summer camps, group worship meetings, and afterschool programs.
  • Food Pantries - in Venice and North Port
  • A Thrift Store - in Venice
