Do You Like Astronomy? Discovery Place Nature Needs You!

ORGANIZATION: Discovery Place, Inc.

Discovery Place Nature (formerly Charlotte Nature Museum) is over the moon to announce the opening of a new digital planetarium!

The new digital planetarium is housed in the Museum’s original Charlotte A. Kelly Planetarium. The dome has been retrofitted with a new Digitarium(r) Zeta Portable planetarium system which projects images of stars, planets and constellations to simulate the night sky.

Adult volunteers are needed in this area. The daily planetarium show volunteer will usher visitors in and out of the planetarium 1-3 times per day (the daily show schedule fluctuates), take tickets, and operate the planetarium system. For daily shows this consists of turning the system on (a computer and projector system), playing pre-recorded shows and going over basic rules in the planetarium. Volunteers do not need to have a background in astronomy and will not be expected to have extensive knowledge in this subject, however we are interested in volunteers who would take an interest in the planetarium system and share their knowledge with the public. Ideally, volunteers will commit to a regular/predictable schedule and will be open to learning more about astronomy and earth science. We will train volunteers on best practices as well as on all applicable equipment.
