Mission Statement

Inspire, motivate, and educate the Dance-The Next Generation students to graduate from high school through the discipline of dance.

Description

The Sarasota Ballet's DNG program is a one-of-a-kind afterschool program that provides disciplined instruction in ballet, jazz, elements of dance and composition. With this mentoring, the staff of DNG helps aproximately 150 students, from the third through twelfth grade, to develop the skills needed to succeed in any field of endeavor through the discipline of dance. Although led by professionals, the goal of the program is not to make them professional dancers, but to provide a safe haven. Volunteers are needed to help with the students in grades 3-5 which is the first 3 years they are in the program. These students receive an hour of dance instruction and 1 1/2 hours in an academic and enrichment period during which time the volunteers are needed. Volunteers assist their homework along with providing mentoring and other support services to help them learn responsibility and to gain the confidence needed to become well-rounded, productive and involved members of the community. If the10 year program is completed, the students qualify for a full four-year scholarship through the State College of Florida or the University of South Florida to pursue the career of their choice.
