Position Purpose:

The Volunteer Coordinator oversees the Society’s (MAHS) volunteer program by matching the volunteer’s skills and available time to MAHS’s needs for events and operations.

Position Duties

  1. Assists with recruiting new volunteers.
  2. Interviews new volunteers to determine what skills they have, times they are available and motivation to volunteer for MAHS.
  3. Maintains the volunteer database with contact information, results of the interview, hours available and reported hours worked including training completed through MAHS.
  4. Works with the Event Manager to find volunteers that can work an event.
  5. Works with the Executive Director to find volunteers for operations or special projects.
  6. Assists the Executive Director in identifying Volunteer of the Month and other recognition programs.
  7. Maintains contact with volunteers to ensure there are no problems and they feel they are contributing to MAHS in a rewarding manner.
  8. Maintains a positive, upbeat attitude when communicating with volunteers, staff and managers.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Strong organizational and scheduling skills.
    2. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate successfully with diverse groups of people.
    3. Demonstrated ability to communicate successfully with electronic media (telephone, email, etc.)
    4. Demonstrated ability to use electronic hardware and software, including but not limited to:
      1. Microsoft Office Suite
      2. Database management software - not yet defined
      3. Computer and peripheral hardware (digital cameras, printers, scanners, etc.)
      4. Photocopiers
    5. Has the ability to travel to the Bruentrup Heritage Farm, although much work can be done from the Coordinator’s home.

    Desirable Qualifications

    1. Demonstrated ability to work in a leadership role, guide teams and/or individuals toward a common goal.
    2. Demonstrated ability to provide training, direction and management of volunteers.
    3. Knowledge of Maplewood Area and Minnesota history.

Description

The Maplewood Area Historical Society was incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3 in 1997 to preserve and interpret the history of Maplewood through collections, events, exhibits and programs. Most of our events, exhibits and meetings are at the Bruentrup Heritage Farm but we also sponsor tours, talks and other programs offsite. The Bruentrup Heritage Farm is located on 2 ½ acres of land with nine buildings that date back to 1891. It is surrounded on two sides by a 22 acre prairie maintained as Open Space by the City of Maplewood. The Farm is used for public events and exhibits and can be rented for private events such as weddings.
