Since 2002 we have hosted a free STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) competition for middle school students in north NJ. This program challenges the students to work as a team to create a model solar powered car. In the process they learn communication skills, alternative energy technology, the engineering design process and have best of all they have fun!
We award students for Speed, Engineering, Craftsmanship, Best Use of Recycled Materials and Progress Journal. We need judges for each of these categories. As a vehicle judge, it is your job to meet each team and score their vehicle according to our point matrix on a Chromebook.
We need our judges to be able to arrive at 7:30am. Students arrive at 8:30am and judging begins around 9am. Judges will be seated under a tent but expect warm weather. Wear sunscreen. You will be provided with an official "Volunteer" shirt to wear all day as well as a thank you present for your time.
