The Organization:

PeaceGeeks is a Vancouver-based non-profit organization that operates around the globe through the use of technology to build the technological, communications and management capacities of grassroots organizations who work to promote peace, accountability and human rights. We develop partnerships with these organizations to provide meaningful support designed to increase their skills, effectiveness and impact. We see a world where everyone can leverage technology to make peace and human rights a lived reality.

Position Overview:

The Chair of Board of the Directors will lead and oversee the PeaceGeeks’ Board of Directors to assess and recommend business and corporate strategies in congruence with strengthening the organization’s vision. With a successful background serving as a Board Member for non-profits or corporations, the Board Chair is a visionary and a transformational leader who will exercise leadership on growth and sustainability, as well as responding to management’s projections on financial position and risk management. The position would be best suited to a mature individual with a well-rounded experience of business, organizational structure and operations at a senior level, and who possesses a passion for peace and human rights complemented with technology. This is a long-term volunteer position that requires working closely with the Executive Director and the Board Members.

Responsibilities:

· Set, enforce and measure progress towards organizations’ expectations based on problem identification and feasible projections

· Lead the Board members in the evaluation of changes that will better achieve PeaceGeeks’ vision and mission

· Presides over the Board Meetings that takes place once every three months and respond to strategies provided by management

· Navigate the direction of the organization’s annual plan, followed by creating strategic amendments to respond to the results in the annual report

· Delegate specific tasks to the respective board members as appropriate

· Appoint committee chairs and recommending who will serve on committees

· Articulate ideas and techniques that benefit an array of PeaceGeeks’ different stakeholders

· Provide viable feedback to the Executive Director on day-to-day operations, as well as the performance that follows

· Ensure that organizational structures and procedures are in place for effective recruitment, training, and evaluation of board members

· Provide advisory on each department of the organization (marketing & branding, projects, events, human resources, fundraising, finance)

· Ensure the governance structure and policy is properly represented for PeaceGeeks

· Analyze internal and external issues and opportunities

· Take the progress and results of PeaceGeeks’ operations to generate new concepts that will improve its operations

· Be available to support the Board via different communication channels (email, phone, in-person)

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial and/or non-profit strategy development, leadership, organizational design and project management
  • 5+ years of experience in non-profit or commercial management, preferably on the Board of Directors or Executive team
  • Established track record working in a technology-driven and/or a business-to-business environment
  • Capable to define how challenges can transition into opportunities for our clients
  • Innate ability to build and sustain beneficial relationships that mutually serves involving parties’ interests
  • High entrepreneurial spirit and emotional intelligence
  • Veteran strategic planner equipped with extensive business acumen
  • Maintains an impartial and appropriate perspective at all time in a professional capacity
  • Knowledgeable of current issues and events locally and globally
