ORGANIZATION: The Princess Project Los Angeles Location

  • 3 people are interested

The Princess Project Los Angeles is in its first year as a Princess Project non-profit location and we are recruiting for our Leadership Board. We are actively seeking a Dress Chair (Prom) for our Los Angeles leadership board for a minimum 2-year commitment. The Dress Chair (Prom) can be supported by two people (Co-Chairs) and has the following responsibilities:

  • Responsible for coordinating all dress donations from the general public
  • Responsible for local outreach to dress retailers and companies. Partners with Accessories Chair to ensure no duplication of efforts
  • Partners with Community Chair and Community Liaisons to contact schools to conduct dress drives
  • Manages dress inventories
  • Manages all public dress drive sites
  • Manages dress collection process and receipts for all donations
  • Responsible for working with organizations and Community Liaisons to ensure proper sizes are available for giveaways including group giveaways
  • Responsible for securing and managing storage post-giveaways for leftover dresses, accessories and décor in coordination with Accessories Chair and Vice President
  • Responsible for purchasing any dresses required outside of donated items. Traditionally there is a need to purchase sizes at both ends of the spectrum as the volume of donations for dresses of these sizes tends to be small (e.g. size 00-2 as well as sizes 18+)
  • Responsible for partnerships with dry cleaners for dress cleaning, steaming and repair (post storage)
  • Coordinates the dress giveaway team event
  • Hospitality responsibilities (as denoted under Hospitality)

The time committment for this role during these formative years varies per month but averages 10-15 hours a month except during prom season (March-May) where an additional one to three weekends of time may be needed at various dress giveaway events. Each year, we have a three day planning meeting for the upcoming year in July that is required for all board members.

Description

The Princess Project is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit that began in San Francisco in 2002 and expanded into the greater Bay Area, San Diego and now is in Los Angeles.

The Princess Project Los Angeles promotes self-confidence and individual beauty by providing formal wear and accessories to high school teens who cannot otherwise afford them. Our effort is made possible through invaluable volunteer, donor, and community support via donations and financial gifts to further our goals here in the greater Los Angeles area.

By creating a positive, safe environment for teens and their families to come to and find the formal wear desired in an environment that embraces and celebrates all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientation, disabilities and bodies of all shapes and sizes, our work goes far beyond formal wear to instill a sense of pride and confidence in the thousands of teens that we reach each prom season and to help support special moments in their lives. Our goal is to reach teens at a pivotal moment in their lives and give them an experience that they will forever cherish, as we celebrate with them their passage into adulthood.
