ORGANIZATION: Soldiers' Angels National Headquarters

The VA Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruitment of volunteers that to provide programs that Soldiers’ Angels offers through the VA Medical Centers. As one of the only organizations in the country approved to work within the VA Medical Centers, it is our responsibility to serve our nation’s veterans the best we possibly can. As deployments continue to draw down, Soldiers’ Angels is shifting excess assets to support this population. Eventually VA Medical Center support will be the primary mission of the organizations. With so many nonprofits focused only on Post 9-11 wounded, ill and injured, we are one of the few organization focusing on veterans of all generations. The goal of this position is to work with the VA Support Director to grow the VA support Soldiers’ Angels provides to our veterans.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the recruitment of volunteers to serve as VA representatives.
  • Interviews and processes volunteer paperwork for VA support candidates.
  • Coordinates with the VA Medical Centers to determine need for our services and to coordinate the placement of volunteers in various VA Medical Centers.
  • Develop strong relationships with the VA Support Program volunteers serving Soldiers’ Angels.
  • Create a positive environment where two-way communication and strong trust are established.
  • Ensure VA reps are fully trained on the skills necessary for them to succeed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or similar field; or 5 years of experience/training in program management; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Volunteer Management or appropriate related experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and strategic thinking.
  • Highly organized.
  • Ability to prioritize big picture ideas and execute into tangible actions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to present effective and compelling messages to individuals, groups and the public.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a diverse variety of individuals.
  • Experience with Windows-based volunteer software.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office Suite computer skills.
  • Prior experience in a leadership position with Soldiers’ Angels preferred by not required.
