NVO

New Vision Organization (NVO) is a national prisoner's rights advocacy organization. Our mission is to improve the quality of rehabilitation for incarcerated men and women. We advocate for the rights of long-term and soon-to-be-released prisoners, as well as those on Death Row or serving life without parole. Learn more about us at www.newvisionorg.org

NVO is still a young start-up that relies exclusively on volunteers to operate and maintain every aspect of the organization, as well as provide services for prisoners and the newly released. We are also a virtual organization whose volunteers work remotely throughout the country. NVO seeks someone who can take responsibility for creating and running the HR Department, and recruiting, hiring and retaining new volunteers.

Here's what we need in a volunteer HR Director:

Responsibilities

  • Developing a Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Plan
  • Identifying Volunteer positions needed by the organization
  • Creating and posting Volunteer job descriptions as needed
  • Recruiting, screening, interviewing and on-boarding of new Volunteers
  • Conducting Volunteer orientations or training as needed
  • Managing and monitoring Volunteers, including setting schedules, maintaining calendars, organizing meetings, and communicating weekly with Volunteers
  • Creating HR Documents as needed (e.g., Volunteer Handbook, Applications, etc.)
  • Creating and maintaining a Volunteer database

Desired Experience, Education, Skills and Attributes

  • 2+ years in the HR industry, whether formal or informal
  • 2+ year experience managing or supervising others
  • Associates degree or higher; preferably Bachelors
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Google Suite, etc.; preferably tech savvy
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work remotely as part of a virtual team
  • Self-directed, self-motivated and self-reliant
  • Discrete, and can handle confidential information
  • Reliable and responsible, with a high degree of integrity

Other Requirements

  • Committed to our mission or can commit to our mission
  • Can commit to 20-hours per week (minimum of 10)
  • Can commit to a minimum of one year of volunteer service with NVO

Description

NVO works to provide consistency, emotional support and stability for prisoners and we support prisoners and their families in the rehabilitation, freedom and unification process. We provide extensive research for aftercare resources, free educational correspondence courses, probono legal advocacy and numerous other supportive services. In addition. to promoting the enhancement of higher standards of moral conduct to both prisoners and staff members. To provide extensive services and networking that will involve members in the community in addition to law students, public relations volunteers, staff and prisoners inside and outside the prison setting. To work together in unity in order to reunite families and eliminate crime. We also promote and provide, education to the public around the severe issues of prison abuses, deprivations, mail tampering and destruction, lack of Rehabilitative/Therapeutic programs for prisoners and medical neglect.
