About WriterCoach Connection

1212 Preservation Park Way, Suite 100, Oakland, CA 94612, US

Mission Statement

WriterCoach Connection connects trained, caring volunteer coaches with middle and high school students to engage, encourage and inspire them to think more critically and write more skillfully. Our vision is that all students discover the power and richness of their own voices and learn to communicate their ideas with clarity and confidence to enable them to participate successfully in personal and academic challenges, career options and community conversations.

WriterCoach Connection was founded in 2001 in Berkeley, CA. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary and have coached over 38,000 students since our founding. Our core program is a equity-focused, in-school academic program (on Zoom during the pandemic) where trained, caring adult coaches work individually and in small groups with each and every student in the classroom, in support of teachers’ writing assignments. We also have an after-school program collaboration where our coaches provide college essay coaching with a track record of 98% of students getting into a four year college/university.

WriterCoach Connection offers a cost-effective and significantly impactful program, helping students master crucial life skills while fostering social-emotional connections between students and their coaches.
