Volunteering at a National History Day event is a rewarding experience. Help students learn history by actively supporting regional, state and national competitions. Meals are provided!
Sheboygan community members are needed to help history come alive for students! Event day roles are described below and we would love to hear from you!
Room Monitors
Room monitors are stationed outside one or more presentation rooms during the event. They supervise project set-up, keep judging on schedule and help keep nervous students calm before their presentations.
Judges
History Day judges work on a panel of three. They review projects, interview students, and create written evaluations for each project. They are responsible for deciding which projects advance to the next level of competition. Training is provided for all judges on the day of the competition. People at all levels with backgrounds in documentaries, performances, and web or exhibit design, history enthusiasts, and people with research, museum, history, or education experience make great volunteers and judges.
While we will try our best to accommodate all requests for categories and judge teams, we cannot guarantee your preference. A balance of backgrounds and experience levels on judging panels is our highest priority for History Day competitions.
- Paper judges will receive their entries at least one week in advance to review before the day of the event.
- Website judges must have access to a computer with an Internet connection and will receive their entries at least one week in advance to review before the day of the event.

Mission Statement
Engaging students and teachers in historical research and skills development
Description
National History Day is an exciting academic enrichment program that helps students learn about historical issues, ideas, people, and events. This yearlong academic adventure fosters students' enthusiasm for learning and their love for history. The Wisconsin Historical Society is proud to sponsor and coordinate National History Day in our state.
With thousands of students participating in competitions across our state much like science fair, we need volunteers to help us run the events and give students critical feedback. The feedback helps them advance from their local levels to the chance to go to the National Competition in D.C.
