Thank you for exploring being a hospice volunteer with AccentCare Hospice. We are looking for hospice volunteers to provide companionship to our patients who are living in facilities or in their homes.

Many people are not completely familiar with the concept of hospice. In very general terms, hospice provides palliative care to terminally ill patients. This service also includes supporting their caregivers. Besides providing for patients' comfort, hospice is responsible for maintaining their safety and privacy.

Since volunteers in hospice are part of our care team, our volunteers, as with all our employees, must become familiar with the 'hospice" team concept, philosophy, and approach to end-of-life issues. Also, your emotional well-being is our concern; we want you to be prepared in everyway for this type of work, which can be so rewarding. Not surprising then, our volunteer orientation process is more involved than walking in and immediately helping out.

We require that our prospective hospice volunteers fill out an application packet, read our hospice training manual, and thereafter attend a multi-hour in-office training session.

The application packet includes consent documents, whereby you authorize the verification of all information on your application, including but not limited to your character, to your employment and education history, as well as to your motor vehicle, financial, and criminal history. Only those volunteers that ask to be assigned to patients will be tested beforehand for TB (at the company's expense). After successfully completing our training process, all newly minted hospice volunteers will then be eligible for their first assignment as a member of our hospice team!
