Would you like to be trained to help others understand their Medicare benefits, and enroll beneficiaries into Advantage and Prescription Drug plans? If so, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. PA MEDI is the name of the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) for Pennsylvania's Medicare beneficiaries. As a Union-Snyder Agency on Aging, Inc. PA MEDI Volunteer you would become a vital part of enhancing and improving the lives of others by assisting with completing applications for government programs that help pay Medicare expenses. We would love to have you join us and be a part of helping beneficiaries with better understanding their health insurance options so that they can make sound decisions about what is best for them.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to ensure the rights of older adults within Union & Snyder counties to live independent, meaningful, and dignified lives in their own homes and communities, make informed decisions concerning their care, and stay active and productive for as long as possible.

Description

The Union-Snyder Area Agency on Aging began in June 1974 as a two-county public agency under the direct control of the Union and Snyder County Boards of Commissioners. Since that time, it has served as the primary agency for developing and providing services for persons sixty and over in Union and Snyder counties.

In September, of 2003, the two Boards of Commissioners asked the Pennsylvania Department of Aging to consider the redesignation of the public AAA to a new private, not-for-profit board. The major reasons for this request were to expand community involvement on all levels and allow the agency to access additional funding sources.

In March 2004, after two public hearings and other fact-finding efforts, the Secretary of Aging approved the request. Beginning July 1, 2004, the Union-Snyder Agency on Aging, Inc. became one of 17 private not-for-profit Area Agencies on Aging in Pennsylvania.
